The new portrait of Rania of Jordan (with the Arab tiara) and Abdullah II to celebrate the king’s Silver Jubilee

On June 9, 1999, Jordan celebrated the enthronement of its new king, Abdullah II. He came to the throne after the death of his father, the king Hussein I, who a few months earlier had named him heir. With him, his wife did it as queen consort, Rania, whom he had married exactly six years ago (on June 10, 1993). That day the new kings offered a reception to 800 people at the Raghadan Palace, and toured the streets of Amman in a convertible. It was Rania’s debut with a tiara. Specifically, the diamond tiara of the Queen Aliathird wife of Hussein I and mother of Princess Haya of Jordan, made by Cartier to match some eye-catching earrings.

The celebration of Silver Jubilee It will be more modest, but this afternoon, the kings will also participate in an event that commemorates the arrival of Abdullah II to the throne 25 years ago. As before the celebration in the street, the kings have published a new official portrait.

Written in Arabic, it can be read, “Greatness to Allah.” The tiara was commissioned by King Abdullah II himself from the jewelry firm FRED in 2005. A year later, during an official trip to the Netherlands, Rania debuted it to attend a state banquet offered by the then Queen Beatrix of Holland at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
