During his visit to the Cuban capital to participate in the Spanish Film Festival, the interpreter spoke exclusively with Prensa Latina about his projects, aspirations and the passion that this land awakens in him, in which he promised to extend his stay.

He also commented that he wants to visit the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de Los Baños, to learn about this country, its people and its culture.

“I hope one day I collaborate on a Cuban story, it’s a dream,” warns the actor.

Along with his countryman Javier Ruesga and the Cuban actor Jorge Perugorría, Criado is part of the cast of the series Las noches de Tefía (2023), whose first episode was shown the day before at Fábrica de Arte Cubano.

The audiovisual, he added, addresses the terrible reality of some prisoners of the Franco regime, who at night tell each other stories and invent a dreamlike and fantasy cabaret.

The six-episode series goes through several stages and moves to that festival in which there is music and dancing, in the middle of a terrifying concentration camp, where the dictatorship sent those condemned by the Law of Vagrants and Criminals who, from 54, was implemented to also include homosexuals.

In addition to narrating the history of Spain, The Nights of Tefía is a hymn to life and respect.

“I think it could be very well received in Cuba,” says Criado.

The actor was surprised by the hospitality of the Cuban people, since he was unaware of their popularity on the Caribbean island thanks to previous productions, “and that encourages me to continue my work, it is an extra motivation.”

In his opinion, these festivals promote cinematographic cooperation between both countries, perhaps in future Spanish-speaking co-productions that address stories of common interest.

Criado is immersed in several projects, including a series titled The Song, which will soon premiere on the Movistar Plus+ platform; and the film Karateca, a co-production with Japan about the Spanish athlete Sandra Sánchez, winner of the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In this film, which reflects how she won that medal at the age of 40 against a 20-year-old Japanese woman, the young man plays her coach, who falls in love with her and shows her other movements through dance and rhythmic gymnastics.

At the same time, he spoke about the premiere of the film Hildegart, an approach to the life of that feminist and political activist who was Hildegart Rodríguez, baptized The Red Virgin due to her youth and political ideology, and whose speech, according to the actor, still remains. validity.

Coupled with that political backdrop, the film talks about life, opening up to the world, and that independence that she begins to experience.

The Spanish Film Festival, which will conclude tomorrow, invited dialogue with this artist and his other colleagues such as La Dani, protagonist of the film I am loving you madly (2024), which opened the event; Brays Efe, famous for his role in the Netflix series Paquita Salas; and Javier Ruesga, known for More than 100 Lies and Campamento Albanta.

Also participating in that meeting was Joan López, who for a year has directed the Juneda PLA Rural Film Festival, dedicated to vindicating, disseminating and celebrating cinema that dialogues with that environment; and Arturo Menor, director of the documentary Iberia, Naturaleza Infinita, also presented at the event.
