This year the light and music shows are recovered, with projections of images accompanied by sound on the façade of the Arriaga Theater and in the cloister of the Museum of Sacred Art. The villa commemorates the 724th anniversary.

Bilbao will celebrate this Saturday, June 15, the 724th anniversary of its foundation. To achieve this, the City Council has prepared a program that includes 33 artistic interventions and several traveling shows, which will take place on Friday and Saturday. These activities, which are framed within the dynamic ‘Gau Zuria‘, are part of local, state and international creators.

In this edition, the light and music showswith various ‘video mappings‘ (projections of images accompanied by sound) on the façade of the Arriaga Theater and in the cloister of the Museum of Sacred Art.

Likewise, different cultural spaces will open simultaneously (Arriaga Theater, Museum of Fine Arts, Azkuna Zentroa, Euskalduna Palace, Museum of Sacred Art, Itsasmuseumamong others) and everyday spaces in the urban landscape, churches, squares, parks, docks or bridges will be redecorated.

As a novelty, the Bilborock Room and the new exhibition hall BilbaoArt “Uribitarte 40”. In addition, the neighborhoods will also play a leading role in this edition, with artistic performances in Atxuri, Old Town, Old Bilbao, Indautxu and I abandon.

On Saturday, coinciding with the day the city was founded in 1300, the raising of the Bilbao Flag which will be chaired by Mayor Juan Mari Aburto, accompanied by representatives of the municipal corporation in the central gardens of the Ernesto Erkoreka Square.

Next, in the Circular Square will be carried out Citizen Floral Offering in honor of Don Diego by the authorities, who will be accompanied by dantzaris and txistularis, to enjoy a pilgrimage.

Juan Mari Aburto, mayor of Bilbao, has highlighted that this is a proposal to bring culture closer to all audiences. “Bilbao will dress up, creativity and technology to enjoy a city with its urban landscapes transformed on this important date. This is how we will discover a different beauty than usual of our city,” said the mayor.

In it ‘Gau Zuria’ program can be found sound sculptures, interactive installations, participatory and immersive, music, theater, dance and games in large format. In addition, two traveling shows will take place that will tour different spaces in Bilbao.
