This June 11, the showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the fifth season of the superhero satire The Boysproduced by Amazon, will be the final installment of the series.
The announcement comes just before the fourth season premieres on June 13 with its first three episodes. Kripke had contemplated concluding the production’s story in five seasons since he began writing the third installment years ago. As he himself expressed: “Close to the beginning of writing season 3, so years, years.”
While Amazon initially balked at this idea, it eventually agreed to allow the creator to carry out his vision and culminate the series on his own terms, a situation Kripke calls “really rare” in the industry.
The fifth and final season will consist of 8 episodes, currently in the process of writing. The plan is film it from November 2024 to mid-2025although the specific release date has not yet been determined.

In that sense, Kripke pointed out that the spin-off Gene V and other projects currently in development could move forward, exploring new stories within this same superhero universe: “Hopefully, Gene V will continue, hopefully there will be a couple more in development those we are talking about that can continue.”
In addition to the spin-off set in Mexico, he confirmed the existence of at least one additional project, although he did not provide details: “There is more than the spin-off of The Boys in Mexico, but we are not ready to announce it yet.”
