Chris Martin and his band gave fans a preview of what’s to come at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna on Sunday night (June 16), where they performed the new song in full. Previously, the group shared a snippet of the euphoric new track on their social media, along with artwork featuring a waning planet with a colorful corona exploding from the surface.

On the single, Martin sings: “It feels like I’m falling in love/ You’re throwing me a lifeline/ Oh, not for the first time/ I know I’m not alone” (I feel like I’m falling in love/ You’re throwing me a lifeline/ Oh, it’s not the first time/ I know I’m not alone)

In line with the quartet’s long-standing green ethic, Coldplay has “worked hard” to make the physical release of Moon Music be “as sustainable as possible,” according to a statement.

Each 140g LP will contain around nine recycled PET plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste, and the CD version is said to be the “first in the world” to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, also sourced of post-consumer waste.

The first edition of Moon Music (EcoRecord rPET LP and EcoCD) will be available in limited quantities, individually numbered and produced to a “higher specification” than future editions, the release says.

Moon Music is the follow-up to Coldplay’s 2021 album produced by Max Martin Music Of The Sphereswhich debuted at No. 1 in the United Kingdom and Australia, and at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. His single “My Universe” featuring BTS reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Martin has been teasing the new album for at least 18 months. In January 2023, he told CityNews toronto that the band was close to completing what then promised to be the second LP in the series Music of the Spheres. He commented that it “won’t be out for a while,” although he hinted that the band “might” start releasing some of the new songs live that year.

Coldplay’s current world tour in support of Spheres It began on March 18, 2022 in Costa Rica and will conclude on November 16 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
