7 award-winning photographs that will make you think about the environment

This June we have known the names of the winners of the 2024 Environmental Photography Award, a competition organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation dedicated to highlight the diverse and endless beauty of the natural environment, as well as to denounce the damage that we have often caused to it.

In this edition, Spanish photographers, among whom are some collaborators of National Geographic Spain, have had a lot of prominence. The list of winners includes two national artists: Jaime Rojo, one of the collaborating photographers of National Geographic Spain, and Daniel Valverde Fernández. Among the finalists was another Spaniard, Álvaro Herrero López-Beltrán, applying in the “Humanity versus Nature” category. In addition, the jury included Javier Aznar, whose works have also been published in our magazine.

The contest received more than 11,000 photographs of 2,600 professional and amateur photographers from all over the world, who applied for one or more of its 5 categories: “Humanity versus Nature”, “Agents of change: reasons for hope”, “Marine worlds”, “Inside the Forest” and “Polar Wonders”.

Among them, members of a jury made up of renowned photographers and figures committed to conservation They selected a total of 36 finalists, choosing among them the winners: the 5 images that excellently represented their category and the values ​​promoted by the institution.
