“I can’t change people’s opinions. They have their opinions and I have mine. They can believe what they want and I know very well what I saw,” Colton assured. What he experienced in 2003 began to come out more clearly in the months after his brush with death. He never stopped talking about his extraordinary and mysterious experience. His message was always the same: when he died, for a few minutes he felt like he had traveled to a paradise.

What do the experts say from the science?

He was only a 4-year-old boy and it was almost impossible for him to lie, which is why the news spread in such a short time among the entire population. Some scientists believe that these hallucinations are creations of our brain, especially due to lack of oxygen. However, they consider that there is no tangible proof that heaven exists, they classify it as a “state of mind”.

“In situations similar to even these cases we are talking about, They can be reproduced with electrical stimulation in the brain or by some substances such as ketamine that cause sensations close to death or those of experiences of leaving the body or of meeting loved ones or characters related to religion,” said Ferney Rodríguez, at that time, president of the Association of Atheists of Colombia.

But what happens to that consciousness when we die? According to contemporary science, there is nothing to prove that it can continue after death. However, several people around the world who have had close contact with death claim that it is possible, as Colton found out at the age of 4.
