Two decades have passed since the premiere of ‘Van Helsing’the big screen adaptation of the monster hunter played by Hugh Jackman and accompanied by Kate Beckinsale -in addition to the vampire Elena Anaya-, but not everyone has forgotten the character. This is the case of Jonathan Lee, screenwriter of the series ‘Lockerbie’ and who is already in charge of the script for a television series that, however, will have little to do with the production starring the star of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
The monster hunter in contemporary times
And according to Variety, this new series will be “a contemporary approach to the monster hunterDr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his intuitive mind alongside his ex, FBI special agent Mina Harker, to solve New York’s most terrible crimes.” From this it follows that the series will be adapted to modern times, boasting a premise similar to that of the successful ‘The X-Files’.
It is not the first time that Van Helsing comes to the small screen, since In 2016, a series starring Kelly Overton would arrive, which would run until 2021 for five seasons.which was well received by critics. It was a more conventional and less daring adaptation, very similar to the Jackman and Beckinsale film.
“XIX century. In the Carpathians is the mysterious and mythical region of Transylvania, where the Evil that is present when the sun sets lives, and where the monsters that star in men’s nightmares take shape,” says the official synopsis of the film. “Sent by the Vatican, Van Helsing begins his fight there against Count Dracula and the creatures under his control.” However, this newly announced series will have little to do with the original work.
