There are times in the audiovisual industry when some projects do not need the financial support of Hollywood to reach the top and conquer the public. The most recent example has been The Chosenwhich has already accumulated four seasons thanks to crowdfunding and has become a global phenomenon.

The series about the life of Jesus Christ has just returned with its season 4 which, unlike the previous ones, slowly prepares the way for the tragedy that is about to happen. Its episodes start with a mixture of sadness and some melancholythe farewell of an iconic character and the delivery concludes satisfactorily, listing other events that we review below.

This has been the return of The Chosenwhich has premiered its fourth season on the series’ official app and on acontra+, and which concluded its weekly broadcast this Friday with the premiere of the final episode of this batch.

A big comeback

‘The Chosen’ Season 4 Trailer

There is a statement about The Chosen which remains a true truth and is confirmed season after season: we are facing the best fiction ever made about the life and work of Jesus ChristFrom the moment it dared to ask for people’s support to finance itself through crowdfunding, to the premieres of its episodes in movie theaters that manage to bring together thousands of people around the world, it is a fiction that surpasses itself and continues to captivate its viewers.

AND This fourth season has been one of the best of the series so far, in part because it has shown that, although the development of some of its characters has been somewhat slow, their individual conflicts and crises of faith have been something worth watching. All this combined with the way of narrating the evolution of other secondary characters, something that has also been interesting and satisfying.

Although the episodes in this batch have been especially long, averaging an hour long each, this installment has been just as exciting or even more than the previous ones and has fulfilled the difficult purpose of closing the relevant plots, generating expectation for what is to come.

The protagonists of the season

In this last season, there have been several protagonists or characters who have stood out within the choral group which has always predominated in the series. Among them was Judas Iscariot (Luke Dimyan), someone we have seen brimming with enthusiasm on previous occasions and who will soon have to make one of the most important decisions in this story. This season, we have seen how the light it gave off was fading little by little.

Pilate and his wife in ‘The Chosen’

On the other hand, other characters such as Pilate (Andrew James Allen) Herod (Paul Ben-Victor), Joan (Amy Bailey) or Claudia (Sarah J. Bartholomew), who have undoubtedly been crucial in establishing a basis for what will happen in the fifth season, where it is planned to tell what happened during Easter.

In this sense, The Chosen has been able to prepare the ground for what is to come, creating a complex portrait of someone like Pilate, who will be crucial in future plots, knowing how to move us with what happens between Claudia and Juana, briefly introducing someone like Caiaphas (Richard Fancy), or saying goodbye to a character as important in previous seasons as he has been Gaius (Kirk BR Woller). And it has also left us scenes to remember such as those usually starring Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) and María (Vanessa Benavente).

The best of this installment

Still from season 4

Without a doubt, after having seen the season, it is possible that the most memorable scene is the one in Jesus’ confrontation with Shmuel (Shaan Sharma) when Maria washes his feet.

Shmuel’s story has been one of the most unpredictable and intriguing in the series. He started out somewhat skeptical of Jesus, but soon grew fond of him and began to follow him, trusting that he was the Messiah. However, he has also had his comings and goings, and this has made him one of the most interesting antagonists we have seen in The Chosen.

He has been an example that the series is making great strides in terms of being aware of its value and quality, managing to intensify its narrative and the emotion it conveys, and being able to reach even the most skeptical viewers or those far from Christianity.
