The third and penultimate week of programming for the 23rd Ibero-American Golden Age Festival ‘Clásicos en Alcalá’ is the main attraction of the cultural agenda of the Community of Madrid these days, nourished by verses by Francisco de Quevedo and Pedro Calderón de la Barca. Today, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday, the Teatro Cervantes will host the premiere of ‘El Castillo de Lindabridis’, directed by the playwright Ana Zamora, a piece in which Calderón de la Barca adapted the chivalric theme to her own theatrical context, creating a palace play with a carnivalesque air. Beyond these premieres, other proposals stand out, such as the parade ‘Caballos de Menorca’, by the company Tutatis (Sunday 30). Through the show ‘Duelo de Poetas’, the public will be able to enjoy a current brawl between Góngora and Quevedo live, with ‘Duelos y Quebrantos’ (Saturday 29th, at the Hospital de Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia, Fundación Antezana), or the unique collaborative dance show by Chevi Muraday and Losdedae, ‘Las Silenciadas’ (Sunday 30th, in Plaza Cervantes). Other performances of the event are ‘La prueba de los ingenios’, by Lope de Vega, by Evogía and directed by Noelia Pérez (Saturday 29th, at the Auditorio Centro Cultural Gilitos); ‘Dicha y desdicha del juego y devoción de la Virgen’, by Ángela de Azevedo, adapted and directed by Julieta Soria (Sunday 30th, at the Corral de Comedias). The musical highlight of this Festival organised by the regional government and the Alcalá de Henares City Council is provided by two premieres: ‘Music in the age of Cervantes’ and ‘Don Quixote in the Baroque’, performed by the El Iubilate Recorder Quartet (Saturday 29th, at the Casa de la Entrevista) and ‘Sin vivir en mí’, performed by the La Abadesa Choir directed by Ángel Chirinos (Saturday 29th, at the San Ildefonso Chapel). On the other hand, the Canal Theatres, in the Red Room (day 29th), have the ‘Wu Opera’, also known as the ‘Jinhua Opera’, which will bring together the most representative works of this unique jewel of Chinese folk arts, specifically, from the province of Zhejiang, with a history of more than 500 years. His music is characterized by bringing together six different styles of vocal interpretation, such as Gao Qiang, Gun Qiang, Luantan, Melodía Hui and Shi Diao. On the other hand, the Teatro de La Abadía continues until July 7 with ‘El traje’, written and directed by Juan Cavestany, a comedy where actors Javier Gutiérrez and Luis Bermejo confront each other verbally and physically to talk about human desires and miseries. Also, the Centro Cultural Pilar Miró, in Villa de Vallecas, hosts until Sunday 30 the play ‘Metáfora para Frida’. In addition, at the Real Coliseo Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, on Saturday 29, the musical group Concerto XXI Nvivo celebrates the last concert of the series of tributes to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Francisco Asenjo Barbieri (1823-1894), ‘Barbieri 200 años: dos sainetes picaresques’. EXHIBITIONS IN HALLS AND MUSEUMS As for the exhibitions, the Sala Alcalá 31 dedicates ‘If you still want to see something…’ to the artist Eva Lootz, delving into her reflections on resonance, light and the limits of our perception. The Sala de Arte Joven presents ‘Archaeologies of the present.
