Havana, April 14.- The Cuban Railway Union published on its Facebook page that this Saturday, at 2:30 p.m., extra train 900, which was transporting crude oil bound for the Sergio Soto refinery in Cabaiguán, derailed at kilometer 364.2 of the center line, in the vicinity of Siguaney, Sancti Spiritus municipality of Taguasco.

According to reports from the Cuban Railway Union, cited by Cubadebate, two of the tankers loaded with crude oil derailed and overturned, but there was no product spill.

No damage to people’s lives is reported, but the railway track and fuel tanks were affected by the incident, while work was being done to transship the product.

The note states that an emergency protocol was immediately activated and an investigative commission was created to determine the causes and circumstances that caused the derailment.

The railway authorities, the Party, the municipal and provincial government and security agencies of the Minint went to the site to supervise the restoration work. Passenger trains traveling on that route were temporarily diverted, increasing travel time by approximately 40 minutes.

The Railway Management apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience caused and is working to restore normal circulation in the shortest possible time. (Granma) (Photo: Taken from Escambray Digital)
