‘Alien Romulus’: this is what is known about the characters who will face the Xenomorphs in the film

The darkness does not always harbor horrors, but in the deep universe of ‘Alien: Romulus’, the new installment of this popular science fiction saga, the blackness hides the most lethal predator: the Xenomorphs, nightmarish aliens, have claimed more than a human victim and they are not going to stop now. Uruguayan director Fede Álvarez steps behind the cameras to tell an independent story, framed between the two original films. Meanwhile, USA Today has shared a new image, which captures one of these murderous creatures —in the header of this news—, but what about the protagonists?

The specific details have not been revealed, but the director himself has given some insights into Raines, the character played by Cailee Spaeny. Beyond her physical appearance, which she has an air of Lieutenant Ripley, Álvarez has explained to Total Film that Both she and the rest of the protagonists are younger than those in ‘Alien’ and ‘Alien: The Return’. Raines carries a Pulse Rifle, or rather an earlier version, because ‘Romulus’ takes place before the second chapter of the saga, when this type of weapon was not yet on the market. In the teaser trailer she steps out of an elevator with her rifle poised and ready to fire, although she better be a good shot if she wants to survive.

According to Álvarez, he has based the beginning of the extended version of ‘Aliens’ to build the premise of ‘Alien Romulus’: “There is a sequence that has inspired the entire movie, in which you can see the kids running down a hallway in Hadley’s Hope.”. The filmmaker then pointed out that he had always reflected on how these children would fare in a colony that would need another 50 years to be habitable. Although they are not the same children, he came up with the idea of portraying the life of some young people in a Weyland-Yutani colony.
