Orlando Castro Acosta, manager of Empoaguas, spoke in Marandua about the current situation of the María reservoir due to the dry season that is recorded by the El Niño phenomenon and states that it is currently at 74 cm in the ruler measurement, This means that we are on orange alert. But, once the level is below 70 cm, a red alert will have to be declared, which will force rationing to be carried out.
He adds that the call to the community is to practice good practices in the use of the vital liquid, he recommended not washing the facades of the homes, nor spraying the vehicles and plants with a watering can, not with a hose.
5,000 cubic meters is the production capacity of the water reservoir given the consumption that exceeds 5,000, indicated the manager of Empoaguas who are making the supplies with catchments from the La María reservoir and the entity’s drilled wells. Regarding this, he says that during the week the increase in consumption is greater, while it decreases on weekends.
He announced that the company is preparing to respond to the emergency once the red alert is declared, then it is imminent to start with rationing in different areas of the urban area and try to ensure that the schedules do not affect commercial activity.
Castro expressed that regarding the Ideam forecasts, he says that the company depends on the forecasts and affirms that if rains occur and the level of the reservoir increases, the orange alert will still be maintained.
He concluded by announcing that they will undertake work together with the CDA to guide merchants who make excessive use of water resources and the community in the rational use of water.
