This Friday, April 19, the César Manrique Chair of the University of La Laguna (ULL) will host an event to honor the Lanzarote artist on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of his birth, which will be next Wednesday the 24th. The event will be held in the assembly hall of the César Manrique Aulario on the Guajara Campus at 11:45 am.
During the event the book ‘César Manrique y Haría. The artist and the beauty of the place’ by Francisco Galante, director of said cultural chair and author of the book. The rector of the ULL Francisco J. García Rodríguez will participate in the presentation.
The publication has already been presented on several occasions: at the Jameos del Agua, at the Berlin Tourism Fair; in the Círculo Las Lanzas, in Breda (Holland); at the Spanish Embassy in Brussels; at the Canarian Popular Culture Center (La Laguna); at the Atlantic Center of Modern Art, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; and in the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands, in Madrid. It is expected to be presented at the Cervantes Institute in New York in the near future.
The event will end with the screening of a documentary with an original soundtrack. This short film is based on said publication and involves experts in the work of César Manrique. At the end of the event, two short films with words from the author will be shown.
