The Ministry of Health, dependent on the Government of Chubut led by Ignacio Torres, launched the “Vaccination Week of the Americas” in Trelew through an event that took place last Monday at the Municipal Hall of Visual Arts and in which they participated the Secretary of Health, Sergio Wisky; the mayor of the Valletana city, Gerardo Merino; the representative of the Pan American Health Organization in Argentina, Wilmer Marquiño; and the provincial representative of the Provincial Immunization Program, Daniela Carreras.

The main objective of this action, which takes place from April 20 to 27, is to reach the entire population of Chubut by strengthening intersectoral alliances, working together with municipalities and various government areas to promote vaccination through the 134 vaccination centers distributed throughout the province.

During the event, the Secretary of Health, Sergio Wisky, took the floor to highlight the importance of the event and the fundamental role played by all the actors involved in the vaccination process.

In this sense, he highlighted the work of Community Field Health Workers (TCST) and the importance of the accessibility of vaccination services. “It is very important that we go looking for people to convince them to get vaccinated. It is a job that not only seeks for people to protect themselves as an individual act, but also to protect society.”

Joint work

For her part, the provincial representative of the Provincial Immunization Program Daniela Carreras emphasized the challenge that the province of Chubut faces to ensure that people have access to the necessary vaccines. In this sense, she valued this intersectoral collaboration “to be able to bring health to everyone,” highlighting the support received from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

In this regard, Gerardo Merino, on behalf of the Municipality of Trelew, highlighted the importance of working together with the provincial government and celebrated that Trelew has been chosen for this event, which positions the city in a prominent place.

Access to health services

Meanwhile, Wilmer Marquiño, PAHO representative in Argentina, praised the country’s commitment and leadership in guaranteeing equitable access to vaccination for all people and communities and highlighted the importance of the multiple vaccination events that are being developed, especially , with those who do not have regular access to health services.

Within this framework of “Vaccination Week of the Americas”, activities will be deployed in locations throughout the province. In this sense, in Trelew the “Vacumóvil” will be available in Plaza Independencia throughout the week. On the other hand, the Central Vaccination Center will extend its opening hours this week: from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition, the Primary Health Care Centers (CAPS) will be open during their usual hours and vaccination will be reinforced in places such as gardens, schools, homes for the elderly and central points in each neighborhood.

Meanwhile, in Telsen, Gastre, Puerto Pirámides and Gan Gan, home visits and vaccination activities will be carried out in local institutions, such as police stations, fire stations and schools.

While in Dolavon, vaccination will be carried out at the local police station and the volunteer fire station.

For its part, in Gaiman, there will be vaccination at homes, at the Azul Community Center and at the CAPS San Cayetano, as well as calendar vaccine placement activities.

Finally, in the southern area of ​​the province, the Alvear Zonal Hospital in Comodoro Rivadavia will extend its coverage hours, will approach the services and rooms to vaccinate patients and family members, and will carry out awareness-raising activities in the waiting room.

The rural hospitals of Río Senguer, Río Mayo and Sarmiento will also participate with vaccination days, home visits, and health promotion activities.

Finally, the Diadema Rural Hospital will extend its opening hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. From there, home visits will also be made.
