Mayors of southern Bolívar call on armed groups to cease actions that affect the population

Given the constant acts of violence and clashes between illegal armed groups, mayors of the south of Bolívar demand the presence of the national government and ask the armed groups to stop violent actions against the civilian population.

Several mayors of municipalities in the south of Bolívar recently affected by clashes between illegal armed groups, called on the national government to be present in the territory, and on the armed groups to cease their actions against the civilian population.

According to Milton Olaya, mayor of Santa Rosa sur de Bolívar, the situation in this area is increasingly critical. “In the San Lucas mountain range, armed groups outside the law are disputing the territory for gold and natural resources, we call for the National Government to support us, accompany us with more strength, more presence of the government national,” said the president.

For his part, the president of the municipality of Morales, where clashes occurred this week that have left more than 200 people displaced and where social leader Narciso Beleño was murdered on April 21, insisted on his call to the groups armed to cease hostilities.

“We believe in peace, we continue clinging to the territory, but we need to dialogue to stop this wave of violence throughout the southern cone of the department of Bolívar; where many young people lose their lives; I am convinced that together we can stop what the government has not been able to stop and the autonomy of the community is required, said the president.

The mayors insist on their call to the national government so that a delegation of the High Commissioner for Peace is installed in this territory so that they can talk with the groups taking up arms. “We need the presence of the government, not only with the armed forces but with presence, with dialogues that allow us to make decisions in the region, to go and speak with the armed actors who direct this to stop this violence,” said the mayor of Morales. .

Other mayors from the south of Bolívar and social organizations in the region have joined this call.

Given the displacements that occurred last weekend after an incursion by an armed group, apparently paramilitary, and clashes in the Serranía de San Lucas, the mayor of Morales reported that this population has been assisted by a humanitarian mission.

“We arrived at these populations with a medical commission, with representatives and various institutions to care for the populations that have been displaced by the actions of illegal armed groups. We become aware of the displacement situation that exists; We bring medicine and care and we tell this community that they are not alone,” said the Mayor of Morales.

The displaced people are from towns such as Micoahumado and Corcovado, in the upper part of the municipality of Morales.
