The prosecutor of Investigation No. 9, Jonathan Felsztyna, requested a detention control hearing for Macarena Gordillo (23), the young woman who is suspected of having set fire to her partner, Matías Patiño (27).

The procedural act will take place next Monday in the Guarantee Control Court building. It will be directed by the Guarantee Control judge No. 4, Marcelo Sago. At the hearing, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) will ask that Gordillo remain detained. In this way, she will aim to continue developing skills for the investigation while she remains deprived of her liberty.

Gordillo is the woman who -supposedly- sprayed gasoline and then, with a lighter, set Patiño on fire. The event occurred on Monday, April 22 in the San Antonio Sur neighborhood of the Capital city.

For the incident, Felsztyna charged Gordillo with the crime of “qualified homicide for mediating an attempted relationship as the perpetrator.”

Last Thursday, Gordillo was investigated in the Attorney General’s Office building. On the occasion, she was accompanied by her defense attorney, Juan Pablo Morales. According to the information accessed by El Ancasti, in her statement as a defendant, Gordillo explained that the event occurred in the context of a fight.

In addition, she told her lawyer that she is a victim of gender violence. The defense of the accused aims to also investigate those alleged attacks by Patiño against Gordillo.

In dialogue with the press, Morales indicated that “she declared very briefly because, emotionally, she entered a stage of crisis and, psychologically, I warned that it was not very advisable for her to extend her statement. She, specifically, stated that she did not have the intention of taking the life of the unfortunate victim, much less of causing harm, but that it was the product of a fight over an issue of gender violence that came beforehand.” Furthermore, she remarked that “emotionally she is very affected. That’s why I asked for psychological assistance.”

On Thursday, Fabián Patiño, Matías’ father, told this media that the victim had “a small improvement” in his health. Matías was admitted to the San Juan Bautista Hospital (HSJB). According to his statements, “he was intubated, now they have removed the intubation and left him with oxygen through the respiratory tract.”

On the other hand, he added that “he looked much better because we had not been able to see him awake, we had not had reflections of him. Today he demonstrated important reflexes like knowing us. He didn’t know we were there. “He already knows that we are here with him.”

In this sense, he added that the doctors who treat Matías “are trying to hydrate him, so that he feeds himself. The doctors said they were going to see if he could feed himself to take him out of the intensive care area and put him in a burn area so that he would not be at risk because the risk of infections in the area where he is is high. He remains in intensive care with a high risk of infection. His airways are very compromised,” always in accordance with what his father detailed in due time. Fabián considered that “what he (Gordillo) has done is terrible. He has to pay for everything he has done. (You have) to be a totally cold person to do all that. More to a loved one who is the boyfriend, the couple. What kind of love can you have for a partner? How are you going to want to kill him or set fire to your own partner?” According to what Matías’s father said, the family “didn’t know anything about what was happening, what was happening” and “we understood that everything was fine.”
