A professional soldier from the Seventh Brigade of the National Army was kidnapped in Toribío, Cauca, during his rest period, official sources reported.

Identified as Guiner Kevim Noscue Largo, a member of the Field Artillery Battalion No. 4, he is reported as a victim of illegal detention by an illegal armed group, presumably the FARC dissidents, in the area.

The incident occurred on April 26, 2024, when the soldier, off duty, was on leave. A statement from the Seventh Brigade indicates that those possibly responsible for the act belong to dissident factions of the FARC operating in the area.

The soldier’s family received a phone call alerting them to the situation; A brother of the affected person was the one who obtained direct notification from an alleged member of the armed group. The arrest occurred while traveling from Noscue Largo to the Tacueyó sector, where it was intercepted.

“The incident is reported by a family member of the soldier, who states that he received a call from an unknown person, identified as a member of the FARC – EMC, warning him that his brother was kidnapped“, they pointed out from the National Army.

The military institution condemned the kidnapping, calling it a violation of human rights and a contravention of international humanitarian law, also ensuring that the pertinent complaints will be presented to the judicial authorities.

In addition, psychosocial support is being provided to the soldier’s family through a team from the Family Center. Currently, investigations are being carried out to locate and rescue the soldier, in addition to identifying the perpetrators of this incident, said the Seventh Brigade.

“The National Army categorically rejects and holds the FARC-EMC responsible for the life of our soldier, and emphasizes that this action is a flagrant violation of human rights and infringement of international humanitarian law. Complaints will be filed with the competent judicial authorities,” they indicated from the Seventh Brigade.
