Colombian drug traffickers are not only producing cocaine and cripa-type marijuana for the international market, but also heroin, one of the most addictive drugs on this harmful illegal market.

The Anti-Narcotics Directorate, in a joint operation with the DEA and the Prosecutor’s Office, recently discovered a route that begins in the south of the country, It has a collection point in Guayaquil (Ecuador) and final destination in the United States.

According to Colonel Ricardo Sánchez, Anti-Narcotics Director of the Police, with the information obtained by Intelligence sources, the agents reached a house in a low-income neighborhood, in the municipality of Buesaco, Nariño.

There they found several packages containing 53.5 kilos of heroin. Producing that quantity has an approximate cost of 802 million pesos, but upon reaching its final destination point, in North America, It is marketed for 3.7 million dollars.

The information collected by security agencies indicates that the merchandise would be packaged in small bags, to camouflage it more easily and take it out through the land crossings of the Colombian border with Ecuador.

There it would be stored in the city of Guayaquil, for subsequent shipment in the port area. During the raid they were found more than a thousand labels with the logo of the Barcelona de Guayaquil soccer team.

Traffickers use all kinds of labels to mark their shipments to international clients, and thus differentiate them from other sellers.

“The investigation reveals that binational criminal organizations They seek to convert the municipality of Buesaco into an axis of heroin production and trafficking, taking advantage of the fact that it has an average height of over 2,000 meters above sea level. In addition, it is an area with a forested and mountainous condition, difficult to access due to its topographic characteristics, which would allow the planting of poppy crops and the processing of the alkaloid,” the Police explained in their report.

The director of the Institution, General William Salamanca, declared that “this operation is part of the comprehensive offensive against drug trafficking, especially against the heroin phenomenon that we have detected on the border with the brother country of Ecuador, with which we come working jointly, in coordination with the DEA.”
