The former mayor of Colón Mariano Rebord (PJ) died at his home after noon this Saturday, at the age of 62. The man who was mayor of his city for three terms died from cancer that he had been battling for a long time.

Rebord, a dentist by profession, served for several years as director of the San Benjamín de Colón Hospital. Then, he governed the town in the periods 1999-2003, 2011-2015 and 2015-2019. And between 2019 and 2023 he was a provincial deputy.

In the last elections, Rebord tried to return to the Mayor’s office. He won the August PASO against Gastón Villanova, but was defeated in the general elections by José Luis Walser, the current municipal president who obtained his re-election.

The death of the Peronist leader occurred around 1 p.m. at his home in the city of Colón. His remains will be laid to rest starting at 6:30 p.m. in Orbe Colón.

Duel in Colón

The current mayor of Colón, of neighborhood origin and elected by Together for Entre Ríos, expressed his regret through social networks for the death of his political adversary.

“I regret the death of our Colon resident Mariano Rebord. I want to express my deepest condolences to his entire family for the sad loss of someone who knew how to give himself completely to his community with great commitment and vocation, being mayor and provincial deputy three times,” he said.

“I wish that God brings peace and strengthens his loved ones. I raise a prayer for the eternal rest of his soul,” he added, while reporting that he decreed three days of mourning with the flags of municipal public buildings at half-mast.
