Soccer Camps Project seeks to benefit 8,000 young people and children in Colombia

Under the motto “With football, from the heart”, the third edition of
the Soccer Camps strategy that this year hopes to train 8,000 children and
young people between 6 and 16 years old. The purpose: to create new opportunities through football and inspire children to become the pride of the national sport.

The camp days will have the participation of the
ex-footballers with past in Colombia selection as Abel Aguilar, Fabián Vargas and Macnelly Torres. In addition, the soccer player Liliana Zapata, who has trained the best female players in the country, joined the project in this edition in which girls will be the protagonists.

These spaces will be divided into three stages: training with theory and practice for teachers and coaches; physical-technical spaces where children will learn from
techniques through play on the court; and, talks with experts for parents
in order to emphasize solidarity, honesty and respect as values
fundamental on and off the field.

“It is an initiative of Bancolombia and seeks to work with the tool of sport for the social part. I found it very interesting to be involved because I am a great example that sport helps youth get away from the different problems we experience,” he explained. Fabian Vargas.

And he added: “I liked the possibility of going to vulnerable areas of the country to bring a message. I want to show young people that it is worth dreaming and that we are an example, “Someday we were in their place, whether in our neighborhoods where there were deficiencies and problems, but through sport we found a possibility of life, of getting ahead.”

There will be 200 children per camp in 40 days nationwide, who will be seen
impacted by this strategy that is now in its third version and that, in total, reached 11 thousand children between 2022 and 2023.

The schools that participate in the camps are identified in each territory,
making the connection of the community gain value for them. This task is
developed by the Football with Heart Foundation (FCC).

Faced with this initiative, the soccer player Liliana Zapata commented: “When the invitation came to be captain of the camps, it was a dream, a distinction and an enormous commitment. Contributing to balancing the presence of women in this sport is key. Soccer is a game that allows us to create discipline, responsibility , maturity and sense of belonging and gives us the opportunity to show ourselves as complete human beings.

The camping route started in March in the Atlantic, in the municipalities of Puerto
Colombia, Soledad, Usiacurí, Suan, Repelón and in Barranquilla. Starting in May it will continue in the Caribbean region, specifically in Magdalena, on the 3rd and 4th in Santa Marta; Ciénaga, 7 and 8; Plate, 10 and 11.

“We seek to impact young people. Last year there were more than 10 thousand and this year there were more than 8 thousand. We have worked with more than two thousand trainers and we want them to understand the importance they have on these boys and girls, they are a fundamental part of its development,” said Vargas.

In Bolívar, soccer camps will be held in Cartagena, on May 17 and 18; in
Sucre will be in Coveñas, on the 22nd and 23rd; and in Córdoba in Tierra Alta, on the 29th and 30th.

“We want to reinforce values, train good people so that society, if they do not manage to get the sports in sports, will serve them for their community. We work on honesty, respect, we want to instill in them that they can get ahead and can work as a team, that is the main objective,” said the former player.

And he added: “The impact has been positive for me because we have gone to very vulnerable areas of the country and found that welcome with which they receive us. They feel identified with our story, when we tell them where we come from and what we did to get there. to be professionals, from there we generate a positive impact and show that dreams are achievable. The families thank me for what we do. We feel that the message is reaching and it is pleasant.
