ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond women’s tennis team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday evening, as the team fell to No. 3 Massachusetts, 4-2, in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship final match. The Spiders ended the season with a 10-11 overall record, a 4-4 mark in A-10 action and posted three back-to-back wins in the A-10 tournament including a 4-1 rout over No. 1-seeded VCU, to notch the first program win over the Rams.
How it Happened
The Minutewomen notched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three to go ahead 1-0 in the match. In singles, UMass took a 2-0 advantage with a win on court one before Carly Cohen got the Spiders on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court two. Lara Bakhaya fought hard, but dropped her match on court three, 6-4, 6-3 for a 3-1 UMass lead. Leonor Oliveira kept the hopes alive for the Spiders with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win on court three, but a final singles victory from UMass on court five gave the opposition the match, 4-2.
