The councilor of Jamundi, Jhon Fredy Gil Franco, He died this Saturday after being the victim of a hitman attack which has dismayed the inhabitants of that municipality of Cauca’s Valley.

According to the first information, the politician had been approached by a group of armed men while he was in a restaurant located in the Stadium sectorwho opened fire on him and then fled.

Minutes after the attack, the militant of the Alternative Indigenous and Social Movement (Mais) was rushed to the Pilot Hospital of that same municipality, where, despite being treated by medical personnel, He was unable to be stabilized due to the severity of his injuries.

Gil’s death has generated consternation among the leaders of that municipality, who say they have no indication that the corporator had received threats or was exposing his integrity due to his political activity.

Through a brief statement, the Jamundí Mayor’s Office rejected what happened and called on the security agencies and to National government to solve the crime.

“We repudiate the murder of councilor Jhon Gil of the Mais party. This is a cowardly act that attacks democracy and our institutions. “I ask the national authorities for all their support so that this fact does not go unpunished,” expressed the municipal administration.

Likewise, the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Ederexpressed his solidarity with the local government of Jamundí and indicated that his administration would provide support in the investigative work.

“I strongly reject the murder in Jamundí of councilor Jhon Gil of that municipality. We will work tirelessly with the Cali Police and Mayor Paola Castillo until we find those responsible. All the solidarity with her family and with the Jamundeño people,” she said.

The murder of Gil once again put on the table the difficult security situation that the department of Valle del Cauca is going through and which has already cost the lives of other public servants such as the councilor of Tuluá Carlos Arturo Londoño and the social leader Clarivet Ocampo.
