In an event held at the La Quiaca Tourism Hotel and in the presence of teachers, students and administrative staff from the Faculties of Engineering and Agrarian Sciences of the Unju based in that city, the Institute of Higher Education 1 and the headquarters of the “Dr. Horacio Carrillo” School of Mines, a reciprocal cooperation agreement was signed between these higher education institutions to strengthen their offers in Puna, especially in the border city.

The event was led by the Quiaca mayor Dante Velázquez, the rector of the National University of Jujuy, Mario Bonillo, and the rector of the IES 1 La Quiaca-Abra Pampa Headquarters, Mario Tolaba.

The proposal, promoted from the border commune, aims to unite efforts and contribute from the municipality, the Ministry of Education of the Province and Unju, so that young Quiaqueños have more and better training options locally that add to those already existing, or even complement them.

In this regard, Velázquez explained that these agreements were the result of continuous meetings with provincial officials and Unju authorities, stating that “these difficult times invite us to be pragmatic, to be agile, because the demand is strong.”

He also expressed that “the post-pandemic indicators are sad, with an increase in problematic consumption, for example, and that is where we must be present to accompany our young people,” highlighting the importance of access to higher and university education.

“The signing of these agreements will not remain in the cold letter, but rather implies the responsibility of having to practice them and make them a reality,” he added, emphasizing that “out of conviction, for having gone through public university, for having children and nephews in our national universities, I am obliged to defend public education and work for what so many Quiaqueños long for and that little by little we are managing, which is to lay the foundations for a Regional Headquarters of Unju in La Quiaca.”

Finally, Velázquez stated: “I do not plan to leave this administration without having sown the seed that will strengthen the education of the young people of La Quiaca.”
