Former president Cristina Fernández launched a forceful criticism against Argentine President Javier Milei for his economic policies, which she describes as “useless adjustment” and a “deceptive adjustment plan.”

During an event in Quilmes, the political leader expressed her discontent with the actions of the current government, arguing that celebrating a fiscal surplus in the first quarter of the year is misleading, since it is achieved at the cost of outstanding debts with companies and provinces.

Fernández did not hold back in his criticism, comparing the situation to a household that does not pay rent or common expenses and then boasts of having a surplus. “No, brother, it’s not a surplus. Look at everything you owe,” Cristina complained, pointing out that Milei’s economic policies lack real support.

The former president also highlighted the importance of legitimacy in government, pointing out that there is no point in winning at the polls if people later “starve and can’t make ends meet.” In her intervention, she questioned the lack of a stabilization plan by the current president, and accused him of basing his actions solely on an “adjustment plan.”

He also stressed that, unlike the 90s, when there was a strong Congress, a president with a solid political party and a well-formed team, today Milei’s government lacks these bases. “It’s not that he’s missing one peso, he’s missing 30, 40 or 50 pesos,” she said, highlighting the difference with Carlos Menem’s government, during which she herself was expelled from the bloc.

On the other hand, suggesting that their neoliberal and anarcho-capitalist policies are nothing more than a disguise for an “anarcho-colonialist” approach. According to her, the current government’s measures do not seek to stabilize the country, but simply to make an adjustment that could be detrimental to citizens.

In this context, he called for reflection, pointing out that history repeats itself when an economic agenda is followed that has proven to be ineffective in the past. “We must learn from our mistakes,” he emphasized, stressing that a strong and stable government must focus on guaranteeing the well-being of its people, rather than imposing austerity measures that harm the most vulnerable sectors of society.

Finally, Cristina Fernández concluded her intervention by emphasizing the importance of unity between the different political and social sectors of the country to face current economic challenges. In her opinion, it is essential to work together to develop a stabilization plan that takes into account the needs of the population and promotes sustainable economic growth.

The former president appeared at the inauguration of the “Presidente Néstor Kirchner” microstadium in Quilmes, accompanied by the mayor of La Cámpora, Mayra Mendoza, and several former Kirchnerist officials, such as Oscar Parrilli and Carlos Zannini. The governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, and other officials and legislators from Unión por la Patria were also present.
