Cuba raised its voice in the face of discriminatory actions that persist today against the Caribbean country and Venezuela during its participation in a series of meetings on sports held in the capital of the United States.

We participate in the general assemblies of the Ibero-American Sports Council, the Central American Sports Council and the American Sports Council, of which Cuba is a member, Yohselyn Ramiro expressed at the end in an interview with Prensa Latina.

Ramiro, director of Training and Improvement of the National Institute of Sports and Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba (Inder), explained that these organizations meet annually.

The agendas are directed around all public policies in relation to sports, fair play, anti-doping education for athletes and everything we can do regarding sports in children, adolescents and young people, he stressed.

In this space we also “raise our voice against the discriminatory actions taken by the country where the event was organized against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Cuba,” added the Inder official.

Venezuela could not attend, even having a permanent representative at the UN who traveled to Washington DC and they did not give him permission to enter the event, as for Cuba, the obstacles and being here, he received different treatment from the rest of the countries, he added. .

Ramiro stressed that “based on the discriminatory actions we have had, Cuba first raised a motion so that the United States cannot host these events since it does not allow equal conditions for all member countries of these organizations.”

In the same way – he noted – we have demanded that Cuba’s complaint against total discrimination based on participation in these events appear in each of the minutes of these bodies.

The director of Training and Improvement of Inder also pointed out that in the development of the event, Cuba transmitted what “we are capable of doing based on the development of sport.”

During the meeting – which took place on April 25 and 26 in Washington DC – the island expressed its gratitude for the treatment received at the V Junior Parapan American Games, held in Bogotá in 2023.

These games marked the first presence of the Antillean nation in this type of sporting event and athletes who competed achieved marks that allowed them to later attend the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

In that sense, the work of Colombia at the head of the Paralympic Committee of the Americas was recognized.

The Cuban delegation was also made up of Claudia Ferrero, a specialist from the International Relations Department of Inder.

Among the announcements made here: Chile will host the Special Olympics in 2027; Colombia as the next host of the Central American and Caribbean School Games in 2025 and that same year Jamaica will hold the upcoming Council assembly.

The XXX Assembly of the Ibero-American Sports Council and the meeting of the Central American and Caribbean Council had the participation of authorities from 17 countries; as well as representatives of the International Olympic Committee, the Spanish Professional Football League, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), among others.
