Havana Cuba. – The Secretary General of UN/Tourism, Zurab Polili Kashvili and the regional director for the Americas, Gustavo Santos, arrived in Cuba this Friday to participate in the 69th meeting of the UN/Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas.

The event will take place in Varadero on April 30 and, according to the organization, travel trends will be explained with a focus on the Americas.

Likewise, Uruguay’s candidacy will be presented to establish the headquarters of the Tourism Law Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean; as well as the announcements of the I Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in the Tourism Sector, among other topics.

UN/Tourism notes that Central America and the Caribbean are among the only four subregions worldwide that exceeded pre-pandemic levels of visitors last year.

Cuba reaches one million international visitors

The head of the Ministry of Tourism in Cuba, Juan Carlos García, reported on his account on the social network X that the country reached the number of one million international visitors received.

The minister specified that the result was achieved a few days before the start of the 42nd International Tourism Fair, dedicated on this occasion to Latin America and the Caribbean and nautical products.

Previously, the National Office of Statistics and Information highlighted that at the end of March more than 809 thousand visitors had arrived, mostly from Canada as the first issuer, in addition to the Cuban community abroad.

Cuba aims to exceed three million visitors in 2024, a year that, according to García, will have a recovery in relation to the previous one for which the conditions are created in the country.
