In a significant uptick from previous years, the St Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) Elections, held on Wednesday, garnered a total of 740 votes, marking a notable improvement in participation.

Ananias Dunley Auguste, the Electoral Commissioner for CSA, attributed the successful turnout to the concerted efforts of candidates who actively campaigned for votes in the lead-up to the elections.

“For the commission, we’ve tried as much as possible to facilitate all voters. In the last election, we had cases where voters said that they didn’t get the opportunity to vote. This didn’t happen much in this case, “remarked Auguste, highlighting the improved voter accessibility.

Auguste revealed that arrangements, including the deployment of mobile voting stations, were made to ensure all eligible voters could participate in the democratic process.

Following the elections, a new executive was elected, with Techla Goodman slated to become the new CSA President pending ratification in May.

Dunley noted that dissatisfaction with the previous executive prompted the emergence of several new candidates for the recent election, indicating a desire for change within the association.

Looking ahead, Auguste discussed the potential implementation of a more reliable and accessible voting method, possibly including electronic options, provided they are cost-effective, to further streamline the voting process and enhance convenience for members.

The newly elected CSA executive comprises returning First Vice President Nicolai Lansiquot, Second Vice President Nickson Barry, Third Vice President Kim Willie, Treasurer Gezielle Warrington, and Secretary Ann Alcius, all of whom were unopposed.

Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer positions were filled by Bernard Cornibert, while Trustees Cleopatra Anthony, Oliver Lawrence, and Ryan Hilaire were also elected unopposed, rounding out the new leadership team for the St Lucia Civil Service Association.
