The Cerrejón company reported through a press release that, during the last week of April, they have had 10 blockages that affect the operation and that since Thursday, April 25, they have had an uninterrupted blockade at kilometer 44 of the railway line. .

According to what the company stated, this situation has prevented the transportation of coal from the mine to Puerto Bolívar, the arrival of essential supplies for the operation and the mobilization of the train that delivers water to our neighboring communities.

Likewise, they point out that these blockades are putting the normal operation of the company at risk, which directly affects more than 13,000 workers and their families, nearly 164 communities that are supplied with drinking water.

This also affects the company’s ability to advance its social investment projects and continue to be an important player in the economy of La Guajira and the country.

“As a company we regret the situation of blockades that we are experiencing, although the company respects the right to social protest and has always shown its commitment to dialogue and open and peaceful collaboration with the communities, it rejects de facto means because they put in risk the stability of the company, its workers and the normal economic and social performance of the department.

There are more than 100 blockages that have impacted the operation this year, of which many have no relationship with the company,” noted Juan Carlos García Otero, Cerrejón Social Affairs Manager.

Cerrejón reiterated its commitment so that, jointly with government entities and communities, spaces for dialogue, consultation and collective construction are generated, so that we can advance in strengthening the social and business fabric of the region.

Finally, they reiterated that “with the constant blockades we all lose, the stability of thousands of jobs, social investment projects and billions of pesos that the country and La Guajira receive in taxes and royalties are threatened.”
