The tallest tree house in the Amazon: a unique experience in the middle of the rainforest

In an effort to raise awareness about ecosystem preservation, an innovative project has taken shape in the heart of the Amazon. In May 2023, a team of conservationists and artisans came together to undertake the construction of the tallest tree house in the Amazon, located in Puerto Lucerna, on the banks of the Las Piedras River. Led by Tamandua Expeditions, the aim is to merge luxury ecotourism with conservation, offering an unrivaled experience for visitors while promoting rainforest protection.

The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between Tamandua Expeditions and the Tree House Community, a global group of tree construction experts. Using wood from sustainable sources, the team faced various challenges, from transporting the material across the river to coexisting with local wildlife during construction.

The structure, anchored by a unique pair of intertwined trees, such as the white quinilla and the parasitic ficus, required specialized engineering and design to ensure its long-term stability and sustainability. The main focus of this ambitious project lies not only in offering an exceptional tourist experience, but also in promoting the conservation of the Amazon. This is thanks to the collaboration between Tamandua Expeditions and the Tree House Community, a global group of experts in tree construction.

Through initiatives such as this tree house, we seek to establish a harmonious relationship between humans and the environment, demonstrating that it is possible to combine sustainable development with the protection of natural heritage. In addition to its contribution to conservation, the Alta Sanctuary, the name given to the tree house, represents a milestone in the architecture of sustainable constructions in the jungle, by integrating traditional and modern construction techniques. The use of tools with a design that respects the integrity of the host trees demonstrates the project’s commitment to minimal environmental impact.

The completion of this project establishes an important precedent in ecotourism and environmental conservation, serving as a viable alternative that boosts the local economy without compromising the integrity of the Amazon ecosystem.
