The Undersecretary of Family and the University of Comahue are advancing in the development of a collaboration agreement that will include talks and training.

The head of the Senior Citizens area of the Family Undersecretary, Emilse Lobos, received representatives from the Observatory of Public Policies for Seniors of the National University of Comahue (UNCo). The objective of the meeting was to advance in the development of a collaboration agreement aimed at training and qualification on the subject.

The meeting was attended by the Observatory’s representative and member of the Quillagua Foundation, María Laura Arrué; the current president of the UNCo observatory, María Raquel Calvo and for the foundation, María Inés García.

“The agreement seeks to raise awareness and train both the technical team of the provincial management, as well as the Undersecretary of Family and the community,” Lobos reported.

The official explained that “another objective is to be able to change the terminology that is currently used: that is, replace the name older adults with older people; following the objectives set out in the last Inter-American Convention on the Rights of Older Persons held in 2015.”

On the other hand, he maintained that the Undersecretariat works to support family ties, promoting autonomy and self-determination.

“Our program promotes the participation of families, the support networks that exist in our society and social organizations. Older people are not alone in the world, there is a community that must accompany them,” explained Lobos.

María Laura Arrué expressed herself in the same sense, and highlighted the focus on older people as subjects of human rights.

For his part, Calvo stated that “we have to continue with the task of raising awareness in society, because one of the most violated rights occurs due to discrimination and the impact on the dignity of older people, due to stereotypes entrenched in society. that cause anguish in people and harm their quality of life.”

The observatory is a research, teaching and extension center of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the UNCo, made up not only of research professors and students of different careers, but also of other civil society organizations. It is made up of the General Roca Bar Association, the Banking Association, the Quillagua Foundation, a group of retirees and the Human Rights Observatory, among others.

Its task consists of monitoring public policies in order to detect deficiencies and good practices regarding the needs and living conditions of older people.
