El Dagma released 45 wild animals in the mountains of Cali

On the afternoon of Friday, April 26, The Dagma released 45 wild animals in the mountains of the Pance district, This being the largest day of this type, it is being carried out in 2024 by the organization, which was accompanied by the Municipal Ombudsman, within the framework of Earth Week.

Through a statement, it was announced that from the Paso del Dagma Home located north of Cali, they were transferred to the south of the city, near one of the mountains surrounding the Pance River. 10 opossums, 4 iguanas, 1 heron, 2 coquitos, 2 hawks, 2 kestrels, 1 falcon, 1 squirrel, 9 blue-fronted parakeets and 9 red-fronted parakeets.

According to the report, these species were rescued thanks to the National Police and cared for by the Dagma. One of the cases assisted by this entity is that of a falcon that underwent tibial surgery and had an intramedullary nail installed, which offered it the possibility of continuing with its locomotion abilities.

When the designated site for each of these wild animals was reached, the species were released, one by one. All this was with the established protocols, they left them in their habitat according to their group: birds, mammals or amphibians.

In this sense, the successful release of each of the species was achieved. “All the animals flew or ran, the same ones that rejoined this ecosystem south of Cali.. The recovery cases were different, once we bring them to their geographical distribution sites, they continue with the natural process of food consumption and reproduction and that is why we can say that the release is successful.”said Nicolás Mora, Fauna leader of the Administrative Department of Environmental Management, Dagma.

In this process we are pleased that work is being done on the Pance ecopark, environmental heritage of the people of Cali, and that we can return these species to their habitat. Furthermore, I emphasize that this andIt is a great achievement for the District Administration and for all Caleños.

Finally, they reported that in the coming weeks they will advance new releases of species that reflect the indolence of illegal wildlife trafficking and the effects they generate on these wild species.
