Protocol ceremonies and commemorative events were suspended nationwide after the murder of three officials in the Bio Bio region.

Carabineros thanked the community that went to the barracks to deliver signs of love, affection and respect along with expressing their condolences and feelings of regret for such an irreparable loss.


With a touch of silence, the national and institutional flag at half-mast for three days of national mourning and the suspension of all commemorative events, marked the beginning of April 27, after the murder of three police officers in the Bio Bio region.

With a deep feeling of regret, Carabineros began the day of its 97th anniversary with a call of silence in front of the 1st Police Station of Coyhaique, with a formation led by the Chief of the Aysén Zone, General Patricio Santos Poblete, which was replicated in all the barracks throughout the region and the country, in memory of the institutional heroes, those 1,240 men and women who, throughout 97 years of history, have given their lives in defense of order and the country.

These are 1st Sergeant Carlos Cisterna Navarro (RIP), 1st Corporal Misael Vidal Cid (RIP) and 1st Corporal Sergio Arévalo Lobo (RIP), who, like Sergeant Rita Olivares Raio, 1st Corporal Álex Salazar Rodríguez, the Carabinero Breant Rivas Manríquez, 1st Corporal Daniel Palma Yáñez -in 2023- just as Lieutenant Emmanuel Sánchez Soto did at the beginning of April of this year, they are the heroes of Carabineros, the heroes of Chile, who have surrendered his life protecting the community.

Community support

From the early hours of the morning, Carabineros received in their barracks expressions of affection, affection and respect from the community, who came to express their condolences and feelings of regret for the irreparable loss of the three new martyrs of carabineros who died in acts of service .

Aysén, General Patricio Santos Poblete in his speech at the flag-raising ceremony.

The General Officer added that despite the pain that the Institution is experiencing, Carabineros will continue to work and fulfill their duty. «The only thing that mobilizes us is the vocation of public service, we are capable of giving our lives for others, because what mobilizes us is a cause that transcends time that has no uniform or border, which is the cause of serving those who need it most,” said the Aysén Zone Chief with deep sadness, who thanked the respect and affection expressed by the community.

Nobility in its ideal

The day ended at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday with a mass in the cathedral of Coyhaique in memory of the institutional martyrs, a religious ceremony by the Bishop of Aysén Moseñor Luis Infanti de la Mora and the Military Bishop Monsignor Pedro Ossandon Buljevic, which was attended by the institutional family, added to the presence of authorities and a massive turnout from the community that accompanied their police on the first of the three days of national mourning as a result of this tragedy.

With deep sadness, General Santos reiterated in this religious act that “what mobilizes and inspires us is to direct our purpose to a cause and a public and positional duty, and it is a cause because it is noble in its ideal, protecting the community.” , without distinction of gender, creed, condition or political orientation, is a cause because the protection of the community transcends institutions, transcends uniforms and transcends times. Protecting the community is a constitutional duty, which is related to the position we occupy within social structures,” he expressed.

In the last 12 years in the southern macrozone, 588 police officers have been injured, 120 of them due to ballistic impacts and 7 have given up their lives.

Carabineros reaffirms its contribution to generating the security conditions that allow human development by this uniformly green institution made up of public servants mobilized by the duty to protect the community, a duty that – just as they have done for 97 years – today they fulfill. 60 thousand men and women, who by vocation and dedication give everything for others and, despite adversity, continue to fulfill their mission.
