Defending champions Chennai Super Kings returned to their winning ways as they clinched a stunning 78-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Tata IPL Sunday showdown. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s brilliant knock of 98 and a superb bowling performance led by pacer Tushar Deshpande were the main highlights of match 46.
Batting first after SRH won the toss and chose to field first, Gaikwad’s explosive 54-ball innings set the tone for CSK, propelling them to an imposing total of 212/3. Daryl Mitchell’s vital contribution of 52 runs off 32 balls, along with Shivam Dube’s explosive cameo of 39 off 20 balls, ensured CSK crossed the 200-run mark with ease.
In response, SRH’s cautious approach at the crease failed to yield results as Deshpande’s impressive figures of 4/27 in 3 overs rattled their top order. SRH lost three wickets within the powerplay and never made a comeback in the game. Despite their efforts, SRH struggled to recover and were eventually bundled out for 134 runs in 18.5 overs.
CSK’s emphatic win snapped their two-game losing streak as they were stunned to third spot in the IPL Points Table with 10 points, level with Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, SRH slipped to fourth place after suffering their fourth defeat of the season, also on 10 points.
