Hundreds of people dressed in traditional clothing gathered this Sunday at the Arinaga Crossing to celebrate the Pilgrimage of Offering in honor of the town’s patron saint, San José Obrero. The meeting included the participation of a dozen carts belonging to collectives and folk groups of the municipality, which enlivened the journey with traditional dances, popular music and exhibitions of club fighting.

The tour began in the parking lots attached to the Doramas School and ended on Ansite Avenue, just in front of the portico of the church, where the parish priest, Jonathan Ravelo, and the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, made an appearance. He was accompanied by members of the municipal corporation. In the same place, the participating groups deposited their offerings in front of the image of the saint, to later be delivered to the most needy families.

After the pilgrimage, the residents of Cruce de Arinaga were able to enjoy a very traditional afternoon in the Primero de Mayo square with the celebration of a party gathering in which the folklore groups El Ejido, Risco Verde, Merita la Pena, Los Chano, Polvajera, Mejunje, El Botellín and Amasijo.

The festivities of San José Obrero will continue to be celebrated until next Saturday, May 4, with various activities, cultural events and festivals. This Tuesday, April 30 at 8:30 p.m., comedian Kike Pérez will take the stage in Plaza Primero de Mayo to make people laugh with his delirious ideas and thoughts and with his comical anecdotes. After his performance at 10:30 p.m., a festival will take place with music by Paco Guedes, Star Music and DJ Promaster. On Wednesday, May 1, a festive day, the traditional Livestock Fair will take place, starting at 8:00, on the land attached to the Juliano Bonny warehouse. At night, at 8:00 p.m., Los Gofiones will offer a concert commemorating their 55th anniversary.

Traditional music will continue to be the protagonist on Friday, May 3, at the Taifa San José Obrero meeting, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. The event will feature performances by the folkloric groups Tacoremi, La Sal, Tesey, San Gabriel, El Ejido and Parriba pal Ingenio.

The program of events will end on Saturday, May 4, with two outstanding dance events. The first will be the Dance Battle 1VS1 All Style competition that will take place starting at 4:00 p.m. Later, at 7:00 p.m., Al Son de la Salsa will be held, an event where attendees can have a great time dancing and enjoying themselves in the company of family, friends and neighbors.
