Two employees of the Provincial Highway Directorate were arrested early Saturday morning with a high level of alcohol in their blood while driving machines on provincial route No. 35 near the Membrillo area, in the Dr. Manuel Belgrano department.
According to sources consulted by The Tribune of JujuyOn Friday night, Road Safety personnel appeared at Section 3 of the capital’s neighborhood of Chijra to report that at approximately 9:15 p.m. on the aforementioned day they were returning along provincial route No. 35 from Ocloyas in the direction of the capital of Jujuy and were alerted by a neighbor in the rural area.
Under these circumstances, near the Membrillo area, a local resident alerted the Road Safety personnel that two employees of the Provincial Highway Directorate were consuming alcoholic beverages while driving a backhoe with a shovel.
For this reason, the uniformed officers of Section 3, which also has jurisdiction in the rural area north of the Chijra neighborhood, left for provincial route 35 together with Road Safety personnel.
It was then that they arrived at the place where the aforementioned machine was actually heading towards Ocloyas with two employees of the road agency on board.
As a result of this, the Road Safety personnel asked the men to stop the machine to interview them.
The men in question initially did not want to collaborate with the control and at first glance they were drunk.
The driver of the vehicle turned it off and on with a clear intention to flee and not submit to the breathalyzer test that they ended up carrying out on the two occupants of the vehicle.
A few minutes later, the alcohol test tested positive for the two Provincial Highway employees, showing 1.95 grams of alcohol per liter of blood (g/l) for the backhoe driver and 2.85 g/l for his co-worker.
Consequently, both were taken to the police station, although they initially refused to do so.
Once at Section 3 of Chijra in the early hours of Saturday, the officers consulted with the prosecutor’s assistant who ordered that the corresponding actions be initiated ex officio, a statement be taken from the Road Safety personnel who intervened and that the investigation be carried out. background of those delayed.
The assistant prosecutor also ordered that the driver of the machine be charged with dangerous driving and scandalous drunkenness and his companion with this last violation.
