From a workshop in San José to exporting to more than 40 countries: Ferruz, a 70-year history in Zaragoza | Aragon

The Ferruz Industrial Group is celebrating. From Born 70 years ago as a workshop in the Zaragoza neighborhood of San José Until the inauguration of its current facilities in the Recycling Technology Park (PTR) and in Valmadrid, the company has been growing until reaching 60 million euros of turnover. Currently, 55% of this income comes from exporting to more than 40 countries, from Europe, America or New Zealand.

Throughout its history, the company has followed a “continuous” and “positive” evolution, especially after the opening of the PTR facilities in 2019, which has allowed it to increase its business by around 20 million, as recognized by the president of the group, José Luis Ferruz, during an institutional visit by the president of Aragón, Jorge Azcón. Precisely, Ferruz was one of the first companies to decisively bet on the PTR, in which Beckton Dickinson and the Microsoft data center have also been installed.

Its export history began when José Luis Ferruz, second generation in the company, launched Algeria to get an order greater than the production that his father had in the workshop. Now, the company reaches countries around the world: from various parts of Europe or America to New Zealand.

Four lines of business

Among the projects in mind, the company continues its development in “all types of countries”, with a “positive” demand, mainly for hydraulic cylinders, in addition to other business lines such as agricultural and industrial axles, aluminum semi-trailers and collector trucks. of side-loading urban solid waste. “In Spain we have a tire service project a few kilometers from here, and We continue working with European and American countries. Our capacity to increase production is also limited,” Ferruz stated.

Thus, currently, the company is in “consolidation” phase, after five hard years after the opening of the warehouses in the PTR. One of its most successful lines of business is garbage trucks, with eight of them working in Zaragoza, or 18 for the DPZ’s Ecoprovince service.

Problems finding workers

“One of the problems we have is that we do not find qualified employment. We had problems with engineers, but it seems that in that sector the pressure has already calmed down. We do not find profiles in middle and official cadres,” said Ferruz, who pointed out that They would need around thirty workers to complete a staff that currently reaches 150 employees.

A message that President Azcón has collected, which has exposed the efforts of its Executive and the University of Zaragoza to promote Engineering positions. “We have the challenge of having talent, human resources, men and women, so that companies can continue growing. When I join with the rector to expand the number of engineers, it is not a whim, but a necessity. Companies ask us for a number of profiles that we must form,” Azcón highlighted.
