Fidelisa Medina Rojas, a producer in the Hacienda Maule sector of the Maule commune, has been in the flower business for more than ten years, who is also a user of the Local Development Program (Prodesal) and part of the Maule Florists Group.

She is one of the INDAP users who is developing floriculture with great enthusiasm, an area that today has a strategy that this agricultural institution is promoting in the region with determination, to enhance and generate new development opportunities among those who are dedicated to him and that they are mostly women.

The flowers, says Fidelisa Medina, were essential when she had to face the upbringing and education of her two children practically alone. “It gave me energy to keep going for my children, today I have two professional children, they work, and it is a pride for me to say damn, I raised my children practically alone. And in that the flowers were an important part, because the economy had to come from somewhere to be able to move forward.”

It began by placing some plants and flowers on its property, such as astromelias and Japanese carnations. “I threw seeds into the fields and saw that the flowers came out very well. That’s how I started, little by little,” says Fidelisa. Later she would build a greenhouse and after two years of working alone she met INDAP, her executives and entered the commune’s Prodesal program.

“Today we release several productions. I am producing, working, we practically turn the year around producing productions, be it lilium, astromelia, limonium, gerbera, statice, lisianthus that are very profitable, especially for events. We have a lot of clientele here, over the years we have gained a lot of clientele,” emphasizes the producer.

Currently Fidelisa, with its efforts and the support of INDAP, has a greenhouse with Israeli technology and seven traditional greenhouse buildings only for growing flowers, as well as a cold room to better maintain its plants and a sales room in her own home, where she makes her arrangements and displays her flowers. On Saturday and Sunday mornings it also offers its production at a stand at the Maule producers’ fair, located on Duao Street.

This INDAP user highlights the support she has received from the institution to be able to grow and enhance her venture. “Without INDAP I believe that all farmers would not be able to emerge, with what is done in particular we would not be able to do what I have now, I have had very great support from this service, from the guys at Prodesal, as well as the technical support, the visits. Anything, they are always available to me.”

To complement its productive business, Fidelisa joined the Maule Tourist Route, promoted by the municipality. For this he built a swimming pool, a terrace with bathrooms and a barbecue area. “Since last year, thank God I have received people and they have liked it a lot. We give them their lunches, their breakfasts and give them technical talks,” he says.

This rural entrepreneur points out that getting to where she is now is a true source of pride for her, as well as seeing her children now professionals, working on what she likes and dedicating hours to her passion, which is flowers. It is the best reward for all her efforts.
