“The lack of accessible platforms for citizen participation is generating a gap between public institutions and citizens,” they stated.

The legislators Silvia Elías de Pérez and Jose Seleme (UCR) presented a project for the creation of the “Digital Portal for Citizen Participation”, a website that would facilitate the presentation of bills, resolutions or declarations by citizens, promoting a democracy that is more open and receptive to the voices of all sectors of society. The initiative was supported by legislators Maia Martinez, Carlos Fúnez, Carlos Gallia and Eduardo Verón Guerra.

“We believe that the full exercise of political rights is essential for strengthening our democracy. But the lack of accessible platforms for citizen participation is creating a gap between public institutions and citizens. There are a large number of Tucumans eager to actively participate in public life, contributing their ideas and knowledge. With this initiative it would even be possible to generate meetings between the different commissions of the legislature and the authors of the projects,” explained Elías de Pérez.

“This law seeks to empower the citizens and residents of Tucumán, giving them an accessible and safe digital space to express their ideas and legislative proposals. We want there to be an open dialogue between the legislature and the citizens. This enriches the debate and brings us closer to the people’s agenda,” commented Seleme.
