Aesthetic taste and autobiographical journey

The cartoonist Sergio Langer will present the “Zoolanger” collection, a retrospective of his career.

He Genaro Pérez Municipal Museum of Fine Arts (av. Gral. Paz 33) will hold the presentation of two exhibitions next Thursday: “Freed from all prejudice” and “Zoolanger”. The event will start at 7 p.m. To attend the activity, admission is free.

In the first instance, “Freed from all prejudice” is an exhibition based entirely on the museum’s Permanent Collection. The works are distributed in the rooms through traditional art themes, simultaneously proposing different meetings between them in order to highlight the contrasts between different pictorial languages.

As described on the museum’s official website, to guide the exhibition, they suggested a classic concept of aesthetics to accompany the tour: aesthetic taste. An idea that proposes a specific organization of the mind to contemplate works of art. The exhibition has been designed, curated and produced entirely by the culture workers of the Genaro Pérez Museum team and its Conservation and Restoration Center. The museum’s programming thus continues with a line already established years ago, focused on the Permanent Collection and inspired by previous curatorial projects, such as “Continuous Recomienzo” curated by Luís García and Indira Montoya, in 2021 and the recent “Primuras de un excessive garden”, curated by Celina Hafford, in 2023.

In the second instance, the exhibition “Zoolanger” will be opened to the public, by the artist Sergio Langer curated by Aníbal Buede. This is the cartoonist’s first individual collection. The exhibition revisits 30 years of work with his own material published in different national and international media, as well as unpublished drawings, added to pieces by artist friends and documentation from his own archive as an inscription of a singular universe. According to the cultural space, the last part of the montage can be read as a humorous chronicle of the political and social vicissitudes of the country.

Sergio Langer was born in Buenos Aires in 1959. He is a cartoonist, illustrator and architect. He published his jokes and comics in print media in Europe and America. His first drawings were published in Humor magazine in 1979 during the military dictatorship. In his professional career he has collaborated in the media El Periodista, PlayBoy, Noticias, Sex Humor, Pag / 12, O Pasquim, The Clinic, el Jueves and Newsweek, El Comercio, among other national and international media. In the 90s he was the founder of the legendary fanzine Lapiz Japonés along with a collective of artists. In the newspaper Clarín he published the daily strip “La Nelly” for 13 years; a satire of the Buenos Aires middle class, with scripts by Rubén Mira. He was also part of the staff of Barcelona magazine with his comics “Mamá Pierri” and “Classe Media”, for 20 years.
