During the afternoon of Monday the Court of Letters of San Bernardo issued the arrest warrant against the mayor of San Bernardo, Christopher White (PS), as a measure of pressure for being the legal representative of the municipality. All this in the framework of a labor trial for the debt of nearly 108 million pesos to a group of five officials who fulfilled their role as guards.
The document issued by the court states that considering the arguments “put forward by the executor, and not confirming in the records the issuance of the corresponding Mayoral Decree of payment of the credit in question for the sum of $107,996,825, and the provisions of article 238 of the Code of Civil Procedure.”
Along these lines, the court decided to decree the required arrest “for a period of three days, as a measure of restraint against the mayor as legal representative of the Illustrious Municipality of San Bernardo.”
This situation is not the only problem that the highest mayoral authority has had to face, who is currently seeking re-election in the commune with the support of the Socialist Party. There are at least 100 other officials who maintain 27 cases in court against the Municipality of San Bernardo for amounts that would reach close to 3 billion pesos.
In this sense, just two weeks ago La Tercera reported on a lapidary report from the Comptroller’s Office on the management of the communal authority in the San Bernardo corporation, reporting, among other things, pension debts and a high deficit, investigating differences of millions of pesos in income and expenses of the Education Corporation, a deficit of 3 billion due to commitments agreed with union organizations and the use of the Preferential School Subsidy for an activity intended for the children of the commune.
