In the first months of 2023, paving works began in the north of the city of Santa Fe, with the intention of connecting the Altos de Noguera and Peñaloza Norte neighborhoods. The works that had national financing, through the Argentina Hace plan, were left unfinished and the neighbors suffered the consequences.

The work contemplated the execution of a concrete road on Aguado Street, between Chaco and Doldán; the respective storm drains and the regularization of sidewalks and home drains. At the same time, the executive project provided for the construction of pedestrian ramps, sidewalks and both horizontal and vertical signage.

However, neighbors warn that towards the end of 2023 the machines disappeared and the work was abandoned, while funds from the national government stopped being received. This is one of the many works that the current municipal management demands from the Nation to continue.

When this work was planned to be carried out, one of the objectives set by the previous municipal administration was to ensure the passage of urban bus line 11, something that until now the residents cannot take advantage of.

El Litoral toured the sector to demonstrate the complications of walkability that the neighbors accused, who regretted the stoppage of these works that were going to improve their living conditions, since the comprehensive work included improvements in lighting, sidewalks, and incorporating bus checkpoints.

However, the solution was left half-finished because three of the four planned blocks of Aguado Street were paved (paving between Chaco and Combatientes de Malvinas was pending). But work is also missing at each of the Aguado intersections between Doldán and Chaco, which has caused the deterioration at the corners to leave traffic disjointed.

“More than four months ago, from one day to the next we stopped seeing the machines working and we were left with streets that were impossible to navigate,” lamented a neighbor in dialogue with this medium.

The work in detail

The executive project includes the reconstruction of the ridges necessary for the construction of a 9-meter-wide concrete road. It is also contemplated to complete the corresponding storm drains and regularize sidewalks; provision and placement of lighting columns and LED fixtures; the execution of paths; pedestrian ramps; signage at correspondence and checkpoints to wait for buses.

In detail, the work includes 6,604 m2 of concrete pavement. As for storm drains, 412 ml of pipe will be provided with their respective connections to the existing main network and catchments: 10 storm drains, 6 manholes and 16 head walls; 330 m2 of horizontal signage, 22 vertical signs, a speed bump; and as a complement, 33 pedestrian ramps, 476 m2 of paths, 3 shelters to wait for the bus and 11 new tree specimens to reforest. 20 columns with LED fixtures will be added.

After the stoppage of work last December, as a result of the halt in the sending of national funds, many of these interventions were left uncompleted. And with this “half-hearted” execution, the main victims are the residents who have to barely navigate their neighborhood every day.
