In an effort to strengthen public policies on gender equality, the Government of Huila, through the Secretariat of Women, Family and Social Inclusion, summoned various municipal actors for technical assistance with the objective of carrying out a complete diagnosis and advance in the formation of Women’s Councils in the 37 municipalities of the department.

In this meeting, which had the active participation of municipal gender equality liaisons, public policy makers and social managers, strategies were outlined for effective coordination with the Departmental Women’s Council. The goal is to issue recommendations, concepts and guidelines that promote the formation and consolidation of these fundamental entities for inclusion and local development.

“The assistance was aimed at the formation of the Advisory and Municipal Councils, with the specific orientation of working to strengthen Public Policies on gender equality,” said Madeleine Pantoja Ramírez, secretary of Women, Family and Social Inclusion of the department. “This 2024 we celebrate 10 years of our Departmental Public Policy on Gender Equality, and the intention is to be able to carry out a real diagnosis in each of the territorial entities. This will serve as input for municipalities that lack gender policies, allowing them to formulate them, and for those that already have them, it will help them implement them effectively and define concrete action plans.”

Additionally, the purpose is to train women in project formulation, giving them a clear understanding of how municipal development plans were formulated. This will allow them to know the local investment destined for the entities that will receive support from the Municipal Women’s Councils, thus promoting active and conscious participation in community development processes.

The Government of Huila reaffirms its commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in all spheres of society, promoting concrete actions that promote equality and inclusion.
