The event will take place from May 6 to 12 and several activities will take place, including the exhibition of materials made by children, adolescents and young people, audiovisual training workshops and master classes.

As part of the tribute to the European nation, the contest will focus its attention on the work of the French writer and film director Michel Ocelot, known for his animated films Kiriku and the Witch (1998) or Azur & Asmar (2006).

At a press conference in the Héctor García Mesa room at Icaic, the German ambassador to Cuba, Frank Rückert, the president of the governing film institute in Cuba, Alexis Triana, along with other specialists, were present.

The director of the Juan Marinello Institute, Luis Emilio Aybar, also appeared, who initially referred to the meaning of MICE in the context of Cuba today.

In a century in which audiovisual culture predominates in everything, in the way people relate to life itself, Aybar declared.

According to Aybar, another of the positive points of MICE is that it has been the fruit of great institutional coordination.

He also explained how the alliance between the Ministries of Culture and Education is evident through the exhibition.

Regarding this collaboration, the head of the Department of Artistic Education of the Ministry of Education of Cuba, Miguel Orlando Montero, pointed out that this is the second time in which both organizations have joined forces, during which time greater interaction has been achieved.

The president of Icaic stated that it is a great honor how MICE has expanded, and what the Cuban contribution to this international Educational Film festival means.

I am very pleased not only to speak at this event about Ibero-America, but also to talk about a world vision as Humberto (Solás) said, projecting MICE from our archipelago to the world, he insisted on it, Triana narrated.

Also appearing at the press conference from Valencia, Spain, was the founder and president of the MICE Network, Josep Arbiol, who first gave an outline of what the contest is about.

MICE emerged 13 years ago as an audiovisual commitment within the classroom; I have attended many festivals in which the focus is on professional cinema and sometimes there were sections dedicated to the little ones in the house, Arbiol said.

At the end, the daughter of Juan Padrón, creator of the emblematic character Elpidio Valdés, Silvia Padrón, expressed her gratitude for celebrating the beloved animated character.

We have in our house a large archived work of my father’s which can be inventoried, conservation work done and later digitized, then specialists will consult this documentary collection and study it, concluded Silvia Padrón.
