“Without immediate concrete results”: universities met with the Government

This Tuesday, representatives of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) were received by Education portfolio officials to analyze the aftermath of the massive claim that materialized in the Federal March of 23A.

A week after the demonstration of support for the Public University, which was echoed throughout the country, the university rectors met with national government authorities and through a statement expressing the lack of response from the central administration.

“After the extraordinary demonstration throughout the country for the federal march on April 23, from the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) we value the call and the meeting with the authorities of the educational portfolio of the national government that was held this Tuesday in Buenos Aires,” begins the text released by the CIN after the meeting.

Regarding the result of the meeting, they commented: “Today we brought the same proposal that we have been making since January 2024 and, for the first time before the Minister (Sandra Pettovello, Minister of Human Capital), we have emphasized the need to recover 50 percent percent that has been lost in university investment.”

And they added that before the national officials they presented “each point of the founding demands of the historic march in support of the public university.” Listing, “recover student scholarships, teaching and non-teaching salaries and address the budgetary issue (operation, hospitals, unpaid resolutions, works, crisis of the science and technology system and other points of interest).”

And they emphasize: “We are making progress in the dialogue, but without immediate concrete results, and we continue to struggle for solutions in the short term.”

Detailing that everything reported by the Government at the meeting will be quickly transferred to the CIN Executive Committee for analysis. “We hope that the path of dialogue, collaborative work and respect, far from disqualification and defamation, will allow us to resolve the current problems to guarantee the essential conditions for the functioning of universities and the proper fulfillment of their tasks,” they maintain. .

In turn, at the end of the letter, they describe that “the increase in operating expenses of 70 percent for the March operating expense quota and a potential new increase of 70 percent for May, which will be collected in June, They mean an increase of 105 percent.”

“This is an incentive, but insufficient to solve current problems,” say the university students.

And they finished: “Once again, we thank Argentine society for the massive support that made it possible for the claims that we have been raising to begin to be addressed, with the seriousness that they deserve.
