The Cuban Workers’ Union (CTC) has prepared all the venues in the country for the celebration of International Workers’ Day on May 1, said the general secretary of the union organization, Ulises Guilarte, on Tuesday.

During an appearance in the Mesa Redonda information space, the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, stated that the events and parades this Wednesday “will be massive, colorful and full of enthusiasm, but with the least possible expenditure of material resources.” ”.

In this sense, he explained that the western provinces of Artemisa and Havana will hold rallies, and not parades as is traditional.

Likewise, he highlighted that the national epicenter of the celebration will be the patriotic stage of the José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribune, which will bring together residents of five capital municipalities.

International Workers’ Day was preceded on the island by mobilizations towards work that promotes the economic development of the nation in a complex context for the country’s workers, highlighted the top leader of the Cuban labor movement.

Along these lines, he mentioned the carrying out of massive voluntary work in sugarcane fields, agriculture, unloading of food supplies, support for investment programs and in cultural and recreational activities.

He pointed out that, as is tradition, these days express more strongly the spirit of unity of the Cuban people in the midst of difficult circumstances, due to the harassment of the United States government and its policy of economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba.

In this context, he pointed out as a priority of the national union movement “to continue strengthening the economy and implementing measures to eradicate distortions in harmony between the state and non-state sectors.”

Along these lines, he praised the participation in the Cuban workers’ party of more than 500,000 private sector workers, which represents 13 percent of the economically active national population.

He also recognized that state companies are immersed in tasks promoted by the central government such as the decentralization of powers, the application of formulas for the redistribution of profits and the stimulation of their workers.

Guilarte highlighted that the CTC in Cuba reached its 85th birthday last January and that this May 1 “it will reaffirm the preponderant role of the union movement in promoting development programs and updating the economic model” of the Caribbean island.

The member of the national secretariat of the CTC, Ismael Drullet, and the general secretary of that organization in the Cuban capital, Alfredo Vázquez, also appeared in the information space.
