The former French pharmacy of Dr. Triolet and Figueroa, after being donated by its owners, became a Pharmaceutical Museum on May 1, 1964 and it has preserved an important cultural legacy that distinguishes the facility as the only one of its kind in the world.

The first pharmaceutical museum in Latin America celebrates six decades with an active event and in full exchange with the community through guided tours for national and foreign visitors, exchanges of activities with other centers in the province and close links with educational centers such as the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas.

According to the director of the center Marcia Brito, actions have been taking place for several days to congratulate the date that the epicenter of the program will have today by awarding the 60th Anniversary distinction of the Matanzas Pharmaceutical Museum to 60 personalities and institutions that have worked and supported the property group.

A special meeting with workers of yesteryear and the present in order to remember stories and anecdotes will serve to intertwine ties with all those who in one way or another contribute to the care of the center, he explained.

Brito commented that a broad plan of activities in which those related to the dissemination of the history of the still known colloquially as a French pharmacy stand out, make possible the recognition that the population offers about the presence of the historic building adjacent to the central Parque de la Libertad in the city ​​of Matanzas.

Deserving of the National Restoration Award in 2008, the building is the same as the one inaugurated in 1882 for Dr. Ernesto Triolet’s French Pharmacy and the building has no additions or discarded sections in its original layout and is maintained in an excellent state of repair. conservation.

In 2020, it would also receive the Conservation Award granted by the National Council of Cultural Heritage to Monuments, a distinction that confirmed the Museum as a true historical jewel, both Cuban and global.

Illustrious personalities of Cuban society such as Arnaldo Tamayo, the first Latin American cosmonaut to travel to space, the iconic broadcaster Eduardo Rosillo and a long list of foreign ambassadors have visited the Pharmaceutical Museum in recognition of its broad cultural, heritage and historical value.
