A new attack with an explosive device occurred in the early hours of this Wednesday, May 1, when unidentified men threw a fragmentation grenade against the Police station in the municipality of Calamar, in the department of Bolívar.

The detonation in the last few hours adds to the two attacks that shook the municipality of San José del Guaviare. These events occurred on April 26, when The authorities reported the detonation of explosive devices as the cause of the explosionsone of which took place in a commercial establishment and the other, along an avenue next to a funeral home.

During the attacks that occurred almost simultaneously, one person was seriously injured and, as indicated, is under medical care at the San José del Guaviare Hospital. This same person, according to preliminary investigations, would be linked to the perpetration of the attacks..

It is believed that the main objective was an Immediate Care Center (CAI). However, one of the explosives would have detonated prematurely, causing injuries to the suspect. At the same time, the authorities made an arrest in relation to the events.

In response to the incident, teams specialized in handling explosive devices and security units were deployed throughout the affected area. Meanwhile, the population was urged to stay away from the affected places and follow the instructions of the authorities.

The investigation into the motives behind the placement of these artifacts and the full identity of those involved remains ongoing. For its part, the community of San José del Guaviare awaits answers, while authorities work to clarify the events and guarantee the safety of all its citizens.

The Ombudsman’s Office held a special session to document statements from the Nükak community, an indigenous people affected by forced displacement and other serious crimes between 2021 and 2022.

According to the Ombudsman’s Office, this action is part of a series of efforts carried out since 2023 to address the critical situation of the Nükak, in coordination with the Victims Unit and the Public Ministry.

As a follow-up to this work, The Ombudsman’s Office presented its findings at the extraordinary session of the Municipal Transitional Justice Committee, emphasizing the need for a rapid response and appropriate to the humanitarian crisis facing the Nükak people.

Among the recommendations, the development of a differential strategy was requested that includes the design, planning and implementation of specific public policies for this community, ensuring the restoration and protection of their rights.

Additionally, a call was made to the Directorate of Indigenous Affairs, Roma and Ethnic Minorities of the Ministry of the Interior to intensify its support for the Nükakin line with its constitutional and legal obligations to protect indigenous peoples in vulnerable situations.
