Echoes of May Day 2024 in Santiago de Cuba

The early morning of May Day was quite humid in Santiago de Cuba, the perennial drizzle caused “false positives” for the enemies of the Revolution, however, the weather report was very precise in several applications (apk) where it was announced that The rainfall would be no later than 5:00AM and that was the case.

At 5:30 the drizzle stopped over the city of Santiago de Cuba and although the sky remained quite dark, thousands of people immediately began to enter along Avenida de Las Américas; the Central Highway; from the heights of Quintero; the highway, along the Camino de la Ceiba, de la Risueña, in short… the hardest soil in eastern Cuba warmed up where everything was ready at the appointed time: 7:00AM for the parade that neutralized all the ill-intentioned comments, that this time the Revolution was going down.

Santiago de Cuba, the rebel yesterday, hospitable today, always heroic, raised the tricolor flags high and with the determined step of the representations of the fifteen unions, the relatives of many workers, neighbors, relatives, in short, also signed up. The question returned in the epicenter of the hardest soil in eastern Cuba:And where do so many people come from on foot??

This time, there was hardly any support with massive transportation and, the most beautiful thing, in addition to the rains, the blackouts do not stop, the lack of oil, fundamentally, underlines the tightening of the screws against Cuba.

Wednesday May 1, 2024, was NOT a difficult day, neither for Santiago, nor for all of Cuba, on the contrary, it tested -again- national and local capacity, in addition to confirming the trend of recent years : the growing presence of young workers, an expression of the role of replacement, a logical and more evident process.

At the close of the parade, the member of the Political Bureau of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, recognized the popular response of the people of Santiago; Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, First Secretary of the Party in the province, expressed the same.

Previously, Orlando Beltrán Minier, general secretary of the CTC in the Santiago de Cuba province, said about the motivations and challenges to celebrate the Day of the World Proletariat, the need for productivity, savings, science, innovation, the delivery of more food, without neglecting the fight against social indiscipline, crimes, corruption; and advance towards a response in the economy.

This is how the month of May 2024 woke up in this Moral Capital of all Cubans, where it was paraded again with strength and color and it was reiterated that Santiago is Santiago.
