At the Cultural Center of Cali, the XX Assembly of Capital Cities, Asocapitales, was held on the occasion of COP16, where the Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, invited the mayors of Colombia to lead, participate and promote the international event in each one of its cities.

They are not invited to an event, they play a leadership and activation role in their territories that allows us to generate awareness regarding peace with nature,” stated the Minister of the Environment.

The senior official said that hopes that COP16 will be of the people, not restricted to dialogues between world leaders, but also with the community.

Among the 21 mayors who participated in the Assembly were the host of the event in Cali, Alejandro Eder and Galán from Bogotá, who stated that he will work hand in hand with the National Government to influence the COP16 agenda against to the environmental challenges we have today: access to water, territorial planning and the protection of ecosystems, among others.

“We have also talked about how the capital cities of Colombia can organize and work with the nation to also be able to influence the agenda of what COP16 will be and what will come out of COP16 for the world. Because cities have challenges, today environmental ones. Challenges that have to do with access to water. Challenges that have to do with territorial planning. With the protection of ecosystems within the framework of the occupation of the territory,” said the Mayor of Bogotá.

The invitation from the Mayor of Cali said that From the city an example of reconciliation is being sent to Colombia and that one of the topics must be the environment and biodiversity.
